Design / Build · Austin

Design-build for homes and the small spaces that move.

The method

Resonant is run from a space measured in inches, where every piece has to earn its place. We bring that discipline to rooms of any size.

Approach

Rings True

A space with its own internal logic. Every choice in conversation with every other, so the room feels coherent.

Silence Between

Each note requires quiet to be heard. In composing space, we give the eye a place to rest. Form and space cleanly defined.

Tuned to You

Your unique frequency, made solid. Instead of imposing a design language, we learn your language and build what makes your home specifically, recognizably, yours.

Heather Ray

Principal · Architecture · Design / Build

The other kids had normal hobbies. I rearranged my bedroom furniture, often late at night, until the room finally felt right. I didn't have a name for what I was doing then.

Now I do. I hold a professional Bachelor's degree in Architecture, and I've spent years turning that compulsion into a discipline: figuring out why a space feels wrong, then systematically making it feel right. I think about this literally all the time. It's the thing that sometimes kept me up til sunrise as a kid, and it's the thing that still does.

I live and work full time in a 1998 Airstream, mid-remodel. That's where good design matters most.

Work

A home for someone starting over

A Sprinter van converted into a complete living space: kitchen, bathroom with hex-tile shower, sleeping, and storage. Built for a man beginning again after a long incarceration. Every decision made toward quiet, light, and freedom.

The studio, mid-remodel

A 1998 Airstream serving as home base and ongoing project. It's come a long way. It has a long way to go.

This is the space Resonant operates from, documented honestly, imperfections included. The overhead cabinets come out next. In their place: open shelving and custom pull-down boxes so everything is visible and reachable at once.

M109 shop body · 96 square feet

The M109 shop body was built to keep military equipment running in the field, a self-contained working unit designed for function under pressure, not comfort. It arrived as a 96-square-foot former machine shop on a 1960s deuce-and-a-half chassis. The smallest space we've ever designed. Six weeks from gut to finish.
